Private Robert Neill

 

The background of this North Irish Horseman is not known at present, other than that he was from around Downpatrick, County Down.

Robert Neill enlisted in the North Irish Horse between 25 August and 17 October 1913 (No.866 – later Corps of Hussars No.71138). He embarked for France with A Squadron on 17 August 1914, seeing action on the retreat from Mons and advance to the Aisne.

Neill remained with the regiment throughout the war. On 31 March 1919 he was demobilised and transferred to Class Z, Army Reserve.
